Dear Young Ringers
I have received a request for any Essex young ringers to attend the Dedication service at St. Mary's Walthamstow next Saturday, 8th October, at 7pm (for those that know Lucas, it is his home tower).
The main reason for this request is that the BBC are going to be present and it is an ideal opportunity to show young people enjoying the hobby of change ringing.
Here is some of the information I was given:
A reminder that the rededication service is at 7pm on Saturday the 8th
October. .... .The event is taking off a little for the following reason.
The singer/songwriter, Errollyn Wallen, who did a fund raising concert for
us and came on the trip to the Loughborough Foundry, is being featured in a
BBC Songs of Praise programme. She would like a little of it filmed at St
Mary's showing the work for the bell ringing. The proposal is that she does
a short family concert in the afternoon and then has a slot in our service.
They may well film something in both parts, I have no idea, but the bells
will also feature in the filming, so you must be there to ring them. Of
course with this sort of thing it may all get cancelled but that might just
be me being pessimistic.
(It was still very much on the cards last night)
It would be good if we could get young people to the event because if it all comes off it will provide ringing with a prime time TV slot and be an opportunity to get the message across that it's an activity for all ages, so any Essex Young Ringers who can come would be a great help and very welcome. The service starts at 7pm. We will ensure any young ringers who attend get a chance to ring after the service. We would like to know who is coming to help catering and planning. There will be people DBS checked there including myself.
The service is not expected to be too long but the ringing will be after the service.
Please would you let me know asap if you are available and willing to ring at this event. If you are available but have no means of transport please would you also let me know and I will see if I can arrange something.
