The Essex Association of Change Ringers   President: The Right Reverend the Lord Bishop of Chelmsford

Howard Egglestone

I regret to have to inform you that Howard W Egglestone died earlier today.

Howard learned to ring in 1949 at Boreham under the supervision of Sam Everett. He rang his first peal at Borham in 1952. He rang in the 18,000 Minor at Stisted in 1957, and the 22,400 Plain Bob Major at Kirby Le Soken in 1960. He left Essex in the early 60's to take up a new job in Suffolk, where he became Master of the Suffolk Guild. Three months after Joe Roasts band scored a record peal of 145 methods of minor, Howard called a peal for the Suffolk Guild in 148 methods. Howard and his wife Margaret moved from Suffolk to Newbury, and finally settled in Crediton in Devon. He rang 227 peals for the Essex Association. Howard was a former Chairman of the Ringing World.
