Jason Brett, a young ringer from Witham, has organised an ‘Open Day’ at St Margaret’s Church, Margaretting on Saturday, 21st February 2026. Bells will be available to ring from 10:20 a.m. until 17:50 p.m. There is a lavatory available at the tower.
Margaretting is a ground floor ring, where there are 5 bells with a tenor weighing 10-1-20 cwt (1168 lbs) (relatively heavy going). Adam is hoping to allow visitors to view the bells. The tower at Margaretting is a very interesting wooden structure dating back to the 15th century. There are a couple of bees nests within the walls of the tower that have been there for approximately 100 years.
Jason is hoping that ringers (or whole bands) will drop in and ring throughout the day.
The Open Day has been organised to encourage members of the public to learn about bells and bell ringing.
If you are planning to visit on the Open Day, please bring some change for a tower donation and your own refreshments. Visitors are advised to park on the near side of the railway line (before the crossing) and walk across.
Please contact Adam if you would like more information or intend to take part in the Open Day.
