Hello Members
A few dates for your diary in July and some information too! I hope you’ve all been keeping cool enough in this warm weather!
On Saturday, 5th July, we have our ‘What Shall I Try Next’ practice at Holy Cross Church, South Ockendon, RM15 5EJ from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon, everyone will be welcome and, as always, helpers will be needed.
Also on Saturday, 5th July is the Ringing World National Youth Contest where our Essex Eagles will be competing at Edgbaston, Birmingham, start time 1:30 p.m. Good luck to the band that includes 5 Southern district members; band members are Nicholas Elliott, Hannah Brooks, James Dunhill, Owen Jones, Charles Chikuruwo, Sarah Robbins, Ryan Faulkner-Hatt and Charlie Smith.
A Surprise Practice (advanced ringing) will take place on Friday, 11th July at St Thomas’ of Canterbury, Brentwood, CM14 4DF from 7:30 until 9:00 p.m.
The Association Striking Competition finals take place on Saturday, 12th July. If you would like to support our bands the draw for the 8-bell striking competition takes place at 10:00 a.m. at Terling, CM3 2PH (parking on the green outside the church). Once the draw has taken place bacon rolls, coffee, tea and cake will be served (please bring cash).
Our bands for the 6-bell Striking Competition at Sandon, CM2 7SL are Leigh-on-Sea and North Ockendon. The 6-bell competition draw is at 2:00 p.m. (Extra Parking has been arranged at Sandon Lodge Farm, only a short walk away from the Church. It will be really helpful if those with no mobility issues could park in this extra parking at Sandon Lodge Farm (see attached parking instructions)).
A 2-course Ploughmans lunch will be available at Sandon from 12:30 p.m. Pre-ordering lunch is essential and the cost is £7.00 each (cash only). Please let Hazel Steed know by 8th July if you would like to order lunch, se-district-secretary@eacr.org.uk. I’ll be supporting our bands and may have a couple of spaces left for anyone who would like a lift, please let me know.
Finally, profit for the Association from our Competition Day last month is £215.00 (after paying for food and making donations to the Church and for loan of the Barbecue). Well done everyone for your support.
Wishing you all a great weekend and looking forward to seeing everyone who attends the practice at South Ockendon on Saturday.
Best wishes.
Carol Adams
Southern District Secretary
